Al Shifa College of Pharmacy Extends Global Engagement Through International Workshop on Zebrafish Husbandry and Embryo Toxicity
Al Shifa College of Pharmacy continues to strengthen its international academic collaborations through active participation in globally recognized training programmes. The institution was represented at the Workshop on “Zebrafish Husbandry and Embryo Toxicity”, held on 21–22 August 2025 at the Integrative Pharmacogenomics Institute (iPROMISE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Selangor, Malaysia.
The two-day workshop brought together researchers and professionals working in zebrafish-based biomedical and toxicological research. The programme offered comprehensive training in zebrafish husbandry, system management, breeding techniques, embryo handling, and toxicity assessment methods, integrating both theoretical and hands-on learning.
During the sessions, participants engaged in practical demonstrations on system setup, health monitoring, feeding, breeding protocol design, spawning procedures, embryo collection, acute toxicity evaluation, and microscopy-based developmental assessment. The workshop also emphasized ethical research practices, safety protocols, and international standards in zebrafish research methodology.
Representing Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Mr. Abdul Rasheed A R, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, actively participated in all training components and secured First Place in the interactive quiz session conducted on Day Two. This recognition reflects the institution’s commitment to advancing technical expertise and fostering excellence in emerging research models.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory ceremony and certificate distribution. Participants commended the programme for its structured curriculum, interactive delivery, and deep integration of laboratory-based skill development.

Al Shifa College of Pharmacy Strengthens Global Presence at International Zebrafish Conference
Al Shifa College of Pharmacy continues to expand its global academic footprint through active participation in high-impact international scientific events. The institution proudly marked its presence at the 4th International Conference on “Application of Zebrafish Model for Biomedical Research”, held on 4–5 August 2025 at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.
This prestigious conference, hosted by one of Asia’s leading medical universities, brought together global experts, researchers, and professionals working on zebrafish-based biomedical research, toxicology, genetics, and translational medicine. The scientific deliberations focused on emerging applications of the zebrafish model in disease biology, drug discovery, ageing research, nanotoxicology, metabolic disorders, and conservation biology.
Representing Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Mr. Abdul Rasheed A R, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, presented his research poster showcasing the institution’s growing contributions to zebrafish-based biomedical research. His work received notable appreciation from the international evaluation panel for its scientific quality and relevance. Demonstrating the institution’s research excellence, he was conferred the Best Poster Presentation Award, along with a cash prize of 5,000 Thai Baht.
Participation in this conference reflects the college’s commitment to advancing global research collaborations, promoting high-quality scientific output, and contributing to cutting-edge developments in preclinical research and drug discovery. The interaction with international experts and exposure to advanced methodologies further strengthens the college’s academic stature and reinforces its vision of fostering impactful biomedical research.

5th International Conference for Women in Research Forum (Quwa)
Dr. Shebina P. Rasheed, Professor and HoD, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, has represented the Alshifa College by attending the 5th International Conference for Women in Research Forum (QUWA)
The conference took place at the University of Sharjah (specifically at M24 Al Razi Hall) and Khorfakkan University in the United Arab Emirates on February 20th and 21st, 2025.
The event saw participation from researchers representing more than 58 countries all over the world.
Dr. Rasheed’s research paper, titled “NOVEL NSAIDs FOR THE POTENTIAL TREATMENT OF REGENERATIVE DISORDERS: DESIGN, CHARACTERIZATION PHARMACOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS,” (Paper no. 7830), was shortlisted to the final round. The paper was presented at Al Razi Hall.
