The Journal Club presentation was held on 31st January 2025, at the Seminar Hall, on the topic “Battling Blue”. The resource person, Ms. Raheena K.A., delivered a comprehensive presentation on the topic, covering aspects such as,the sources of blue light emission (digital devices, LED lighting, etc.),the effects of blue light on the human eye and sleep patterns, Strategies for reducing exposure to blue light (blue light filtering glasses, apps, etc.). The presentation was followed by a lively discussion, where participants shared their experiences and insights on the topic. The meeting concluded with a formal ceremony, where Dr. Dilip C, Principal, issued a certificate of appreciation to the resource person, Ms. Raheena K.A., in recognition of her informative and engaging presentation. The Journal Club meeting provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and discussion, and we look forward to future events. |

Through key references and an engaging discussion, Mr. Shafin encouraged participants to reflect on evolving views of gender. The session was thought-provoking and offered meaningful insights on fostering a more inclusive Perspective. |

Mr. Shafin led a session on “The Rainbow Paradox: A Social Perspective,” examining the societal and scientific implications of inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community. He discussed how changes in social acceptance can create both positive and negative outcomes. The presentation included discussions of scientific articles that explored these themes, along with an examination of Superdrags and their influence on public perception and media representation of LGBTQIA+ individuals. On July 22, 2024, Mrs. Raihan A Abdu, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, presented on “The Impact of Workouts on Physical Health and Well-being.” She discussed various workouts, their health benefits, and how regular exercise improves cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and mental well-being. Mrs. Raihan shared tips for incorporating exercise into daily routines, highlighted 10 simple exercises, and emphasized the importance of a balanced diet in achieving overall fitness, drawing from her own fitness experiences. |

Journal Club at Al Shifa College of Pharmacy hosted “Aroma Alchemy: Scented Tales of Desire,” led by Dr. Sruthi H. Dr. Sruthi emphasized the psychological impact of scents, their connection to memory, and the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy. The session ended with a meditation using aroma candles. She spoke in length about the Indian Cuisine heritage, its rich flavours and unique spices, the different types of Indian regional cuisine and its diverse regional specialties. |

Mr Sujith explain various interesting facts about motorcycling, including seating postures, safety precautions and riding gears. His lucid style of presentation evoked interest in the audience about this not-so-commonly discussed topic. |

A talk on Sexual orientation, Gender identity, and Expression (SOGIE) was organised by Al Shifa College of Pharmacy on April 28, 2023. The talk was delivered by Prof Junise V, Vice Principal, Al Shifa College of Pharmacy. The talk was attended by all the teaching faculties of the college, who found the presentation incredible and thought provoking. Prof. Junise V delved deep into the various aspects of sexual orientation and gender identity, and how they affect individuals’ lives. Prof. Junise V also discussed the challenges faced by individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ in our society, and the importance of creating safe spaces and promoting inclusivity. The presentation highlighted the need for greater understanding and acceptance of people with different sexual orientations and gender identities. |

The discussion covered solutions like PILL PEZ for accurate medication dispensing, Bluetooth trackers for belongings, fall detectors, CAM My Eye for the visually impaired, DEXCOM CGM for real-time glucose monitoring, and LIBERTY LIFT for assisted mobility. Attendees actively engaged in discussions, recognizing the potential of these innovations to enhance seniors’ safety, independence, and overall well-being. The session underscored the College’s commitment to holistic education and community welfare. |
